Cement is one of the major contributors to climate change due to the process in which it is made. High amounts of energy and heat are required to convert the raw materials into cement, of which 40% of this energy ends up as carbon emissions. With growing populations, cement usage is also increasing, calling for sustainable solutions to be developed. Geopolymers seems to be the frontrunning solution, where cement materials are swapped for more renewable sources to create compounds with similar properties and requiring less energy for creation.
