Project Description Provided by PlainMagazine - The El Fraile Ranch House is an expansion project set on an agricultural and equestrian ranch in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. It is a reinterpretation of modern country living, designed by Mexican studio Heryco to host the family’s living area, where large-scale gatherings and social events are envisaged to take place. The extension is announced by an impressive entrance hall where one can immediately take in the variety of features within: A prominent bar with a climate controlled wine cellar, an impressive floating fireplace set between two wooden columns, game tables, a dining room destined for 24 people, and a private patio. The facade fully opens up to the landscape, directly accessing an expansive triangular patio that smoothly extends the indoors into the outdoors, partially protected overhead by heavy wood beam-supported eaves.
The interior finishes were curated to translate the studio’s vision of rural charm-meets-timeless elegance. Brick, wood, and stone form the home’s raw, natural materials palette, matched by design elements, textiles, and wooden furniture. Warm lighting filters in through the large doors and windows that grace the El Fraile’s facades, casting a comforting glow throughout the home.
A smaller second volume houses the behind-the-scenes magic, equipped with a professional kitchen, pantry, and other essential services, all clad in local stone to maintain a connection with the environment.
