Project Description
Project Description given by Zoon architecten - The restoration, renovation, and transformation of Hotel Dumont and its annex into new office spaces with an archive and library.
Rather than integrating the full program into the historic Hotel Dumont, the office and library functions are thoughtfully divided across two distinct volumes on the site. The non-original rear extension is removed, opening up the central courtyard to become a public literary garden with access from both north and south.
With respect for the original floor plan and architectural heritage, Hotel Dumont is restored as a workplace. The ground floor serves as a reception area for visitors, while the two upper floors are used as office spaces. The basement houses the library archive, and the attic remains unused. The interior is carefully restored, with minimal interventions to improve accessibility and functionality. Functional plinths and freestanding volumes—detached from the existing fabric and unified through consistent form, color, and materials—accommodate new programmatic elements such as a lift, restrooms, kitchen, and workstations.
